Azmin shows door to Selangor PAS excos, Hadi remains defiant

Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has given an ultimatum to Pas to quit the state government by next week, following the party's insistence to contest in the upcoming Sungai Besar by-election.

Sources said the PKR deputy president informed state excos from Pas including Selangor Pas commissioner Datuk Iskandar Samad of the decision.

Following this, Iskandar and two other excos Datuk Ahmad Yunus Hairi and Zaidy Abdul Talib held an emergency meeting with Pas president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang in Terengganu.

Meanwhile, The Star quoted a source in Selangor Pas as saying that the party was standing by the decision to contest the by-election.

The daily also said that a defiant Hadi had instructed Pas excos not to resign, adding that Pas "would rather herd the cows of Umno than herd the pigs of DAP".

Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar go to the polls on June 15, after the deaths of its Umno incumbents in a helicopter crash in Sarawak early this month.

Last week, admitting a multi-cornered fight would only work in favour of BN, Pas deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man insisted the party would contest both by-elections, saying both consituencies "belonged to Pas".

"Both are traditional Pas constituencies and as such, we are adamant to continue this tradition by fielding candidates in both seats," said Tuan Ibrahim.

Hadi threw his weight behind the move, saying while it was the right of other parties to contest in Sungai Besar, Pas would field its own candidate.

Hadi also said the party's Shura Council has given its green light to announce the candidate.
