Corruption is what ails Malays, says Amanah Youth

Amanah Youth today said that corruption has become the main problem plaguing the Malays, no thanks to leaders who have betrayed the people’s trust.

The wing’s vice-chief Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin said the economic status of the Malays would not have sufferred as it has now without corruption and leakages.

“What type of Malays do we want? Malays who do not care about corruption? Malays who do not feel bothered about the RM42 billion figure,” asked Shazni, referring to debt accumulated by 1MDB.

He was speaking at a forum organised by Malay daily Sinar Harian, “Malaysian Politics: Whither Malays”, in Shah Alam, today.

Shazni said persons in leadership position and authority must practise integrity.

“The question is, how do we come to realise that corruption is a major sin as far as the Malay narrative is concerned?

“Because of corruption, a nation is condemned, civilisation collapses.

“Giving and taking, whether it is RM2.6 billion or RM10, is still corruption,” he told the forum moderated by television host Nazri Kahar.

Also among panellists at the forum were PKR’s Senator Aishah Shaik Ismail, PAS Youth information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, Federal Territory Umno Youth chief Razlan Rafii and member of Bersatu pro-tem committee, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
