PKR’s Rafizi Ramli has urged the Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership to clear the air over speculations that BN’s candidate for Kuala Kangsar, Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid, received backing from the prime minister’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
He referred to a report that the former Kuala Kangsar Umno branch chief, Datuk Ramly Zahari, was uneasy over the choice of Mastura to represent BN.
“Is it true that Mastura’s candidacy in Kuala Kangsar got the strong support of Rosmah Mansor compared to other possible candidates, so much so that many of the Umno grassroots in Kuala Kangsar are uneasy?” asked the PKR secretary-general at the Amanah office in Kuala Kangsar today.
Mastura, 55, is the widow of the late incumbent MP, Datuk Wan Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad.
Ramly reportedly said he found it strange that Mastura was picked as the BN candidate, a choice that did not sit well with Umno branch members.
“Who or which group has influenced the top Umno leadership to the point that someone who has no post in Umno has been picked as a candidate?” asked Rafizi.
Rafizi also urged Mastura to state her stand on the revelation that public funds were used to charter a private jet for Rosmah’s travel to Turkey.
“If Pakatan Harapan tables a motion in Parliament calling for a limit on Rosmah’s expenditure, would Mastura, in the event she wins this election, support it?”
