Do you blame the public too, Amanah asks BN candidate
The Barisan Nasional candidate in Sungai Besar, Budiman Zohdi, has been urged to state his stance over a statement by the chief of the government’s propaganda arm, the National Civics Bureau (BTN), that it was the people who had caused prices to rise.
“We want him to tell us whether he agrees or does not agree that the people’s wasteful habits were the cause of rising prices and not the spending habits of Rosmah,” said Amanah’s communication chief Khalid Samad, referring to the wife of the prime minister Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, who has often been embroiled in controversies over her expenditure.
BTN chief Datuk Ibrahim Saad, during a programme for civil servants in Sungai Besar yesterday, said the goods and services tax (GST) was not to blame for the rising prices.
Instead, he blamed the public for their wasteful spending habits.
Khalid said he was not surprised by the statement as government ministers had all along laid the blame on the people.
Meanwhile, Amanah strategy director Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the rising prices were due to the double blow caused by GST and withdrawal of subsidies.
“The BTN chief should know, do not blame the people for spending when costs go up due to GST and subsidy withdrawal.”
