Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has penned an open letter to voters in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar, two days before polling day this Saturday, urging them to reject PAS and Barisan Nasional (BN).
In the 14-paragraph letter dated June 13, the former prime minister appealed to voters to send a signal to Datuk Seri Najib Razak that the people would not be fooled by the “cash is king” method employed by the current government in buying support.
Dr Mahathir also called PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang a “fighter cock” for Najib, adding that PAS should be rejected for their alliance with Umno.
“PAS says it will not join the movement to bring down Najib because it wants to focus on bringing down Umno and BN.
“Even if PAS wins, Umno and BN will not fall.
“The stance taken by PAS and Haji Hadi in supporting Najib is to legitimise corruption and lies by Najib through 1MDB,” said the letter.
Dr Mahathir said the by-elections in both the parliamentary constituencies gave the people an opportunity to show their grievances.
He said although there will not be a change of government, a BN defeat will be able to jolt Umno and BN leaders that the people were rejecting the Najib administration.
“A loss for both Najib candidates will send a clear message that the people cannot be fooled by the lies over 1MDB’s billions of ringgit as well as the RM2.6 bilion in Najib’s personal accounts,” said Dr Mahathir.
The full text of the open letter is published in Amanah’s official organ and distributed widely in Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar.
