An iftar (breaking of fast) ceremony was recently held with members of different faiths at the Al-Falah Mosque in USJ Subang Jaya, Selangor, in a show of religious harmony.
Present were Selangor Speaker, who is also Subang Jaya state rep, Hannah Yeoh, and Kelana Jaya MP, Wong Chen.
Hannah said she was moved by the event, and was happy to meet the local Muslim community.
The second term state rep also hoped more such programmes would be held to forge greater understanding between adherents of different faiths inthe country.
Some 600 people attended the session, including local residents, travellers and migrant workers.
It was followed by the tarawih prayer, the night prayer conducted throughout Ramadan.
However, such an event was not the first.
Both Hannah and Wong Chen had in the past joined Muslims for iftar at the Darul Ehsan Mosque in Subang Jaya.
A Subang Jaya resident, writing on the event, said:
“It is hoped that such programmes can be extended to strengthen the ties between Muslims and non-Muslims,” said political analyst and former PAS activist, A. Shukur Harun.
