PKR today challenged Pas to speak out against their newfound ally Umno following the latest revelation that the prime minister’s wife had used a luxury private jet to attend a meeting in Turkey in her capacity as the patron of the government-funded Permata programme.
“I hope we can hear the response from Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang himself,” said PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli, referring to the Pas president.
“I would like to know if he would tell the prime minister to advise his wife to stop her excessive spending habits,” he told reporters at the Amanah office in Kuala Kangsar today.
Pas had justified its closer ties with Umno, saying it would advise the ruling party.
Earlier today, Rafizi revealed that Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor had chartered a private jet from Emirates when she represented Permata, the government’s early education programme, for a meeting in Istanbul, Turkey.
As Permata is backed by public funds, Rafizi questioned if the cost to charter the jet was also borne by the government.
“Why didn’t Rosmah use a commercial flight to Istanbul which would be definitely cheaper than chartering a whole jet for herself?” he asked.
